How many years should a high quality carpet last?
High quality carpet comes with atleast a 10 year guarentee but if you are willing to pay more you can get up to 25 year carpet. It really depends on the traffic the carpet will see. Most expensive, high-quality carpet comes with some sort of warranty or guarantee, usually for 7-10 years. The carpet should last about 15 years if it is kept up nicely and nothing major happens to it like cuts, burns or stains.

How often do carpets need to be changed?
Most carpet manufacturers include a "rated for" length of time for the life of the carpet. The most common is 10 years. The price of the carpet usually reflects the life expectation of the carpet. The more expensive carpet will generally last longer. If you have purchased a new house, you can get the carpet information from the builder. It you have purchased a pre-owned house, you should ask the seller when the carpet was last replaced. If the seller replaced it prior to sale, ask for the paperwork, or plan on replacing it within 5 years, since sellers always choose the most inexpensive carpet. Other factors on the life of a carpet are maintenance and wear pattern. For longer life, frequent vacuuming is important, and yearly (at least)professional cleaning.

Do you get charged by square foot or square yard when having carpet installed?
In Europe we all get charged by square meters when having carpet installed. It depends on the store. Not many years ago everyone in the US priced their carpet, pad, and installation by the square yard. Then someone realized they could advertise much lower prices if they changed everything to square feet. Now most flooring is sold by the square foot, but it seems most still install by the square yard (plus a surcharge for steps and odd shapes).

Should car fuses be changed every couple of years?
How often should carpet be changed?
The average lifespan of a carpet is 8 to 12 years, but many last a lot longer with proper care. The key to extending the life of the carpet is to keep it clean. Dirt acts like sandpaper on the carpet fibers when you walk on it. It causes nicks and abrasions in the fiber, which in turn get dirt inside them, causing dirty, worn looking traffic areas. Clean them at least once a year, twice if you have children or animals, and three to four times a year if you are a commercial enterprise.
