There is a switch called a reverse light or back-up switch. It is usually located on the transmission. This is probably bad or disconnected. No make\model so that is all the info I can give you. have you checked the bulbs and fuses
first check fuses,then bulbs,then reverse switch on trans mission,it might need replacing,its screw into your transmission.

Did you check the light bulbs? If OK, probably a bad reverse light switch in tranny.
