The President would be he isn't the one who died
Answer
The president...unless the president died as well. If both the
president and vice president were unable to hold office, then the
speaker of the house of representatives would take over as stated in
the Presidential Line of Succession.
United States presidential line of succession is as follows and is written in the US Constitution:
OFFICECurrent Person
1Vice PresidentJoe Biden2Speaker of the House of RepresentativesNancy Pelosi3President pro tempore of the SenateRobert Byrd4Secretary of StateHillary Clinton5Secretary of the TreasuryTimothy Geithner6Secretary of DefenseRobert Gates7Attorney GeneralEric Holder8Secretary of the InteriorKen Salazar9Secretary of AgricultureTom Vilsack10Secretary of CommerceGary Locke11Secretary of LaborHilda Solis12Secretary of Health and Human ServicesKathleen Sebelius13Secretary of HUDShaun Donovan14Secretary of TransportationRay LaHood15Secretary of EnergySteven Chu16Secretary of EducationArne Duncan17Secretary of Veterans AffairsEric Shinseki18Secretary of Homeland SecurityJanet Napolitano
Gates and LaHood are Republicans.
Shinseki is an independent.
The rest are Democrats.
Technically - the US Constitution has a line of succession that is about 1,500 people!!!
The President would still be the same person in office that was there before the VP died. However, a new VP would have to be elected.
A vice president dying has no effect on who would be president. The presidentwho was president before the VP died would remain president.
The death of the vice-president does not change the President. In accordance with Amendment 25 of the United States Constitution, if the vice president dies, resigns or is otherwise removed, the President of the United States nominates his or her replacement. That person assumes the position of vice president after he or she has been confirmed by a majority vote by both houses of Congress. The current president would remain president.
If the Vice President died, the current President would remain in office. The president can fill the position with a majority vote from Congress and the Senate. However, if both the President and Vice President died, the Speaker of the House would become President.
If The President and Vice President died then the secretary of defense would be next in line but this can overruled by a vote at congress for either the secretary of state or other senior member of the cabinet
it would be the same as before the vice president died
The president. If BOTH the President AND Vice-President died, the next in line of Presidential succession is the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The current president would appoint a new VP. We have had one or two VP's quit while in office and that is what happened. This is how Ford became VP after Agnew.
