No, you don't need to wear a tampon while swimming during menstruation.

You can use any of the following options:

  • Tampons
  • Soft tampons
  • Menstrual sponges
  • Menstrual cups
  • Diaphragms
  • Softcups

Menstrual cups are the best option as they're internal but safer so unlike tampons they can be worn even with light flow, and they can be worn for up to 12 hours - menstrual cups also don't absorb water, don't increase cramps, no string to show, and don't leak like tampons or sponges can.

It is a myth that your period stops in water.

Sit in a shallow bath during heavy flow and you will see that it doesn't - it can sometimes look like it stops because during light flow what little blood leaves your body will be diluted in the water, heavier flow and uterine tissue may be noticed and may leak down your leg once you get out the water. Although menstrual blood isn't dirty no one wants to swim in your blood.

Yes, its more sanitary than the other options. Yes it's fine to go swimming with a Tampon inserted. When tampons were put on the market they were a young woman's prayer answered because this meant they could go swimming with friends. Before, when they used the horrible device of a belt with buckle on each end to attach a Kotex pad too, it was not only uncomfortable, but was no protection for the woman to go swimming. Once you have finished swimming shower and put in a new Tampon.

If you are on your period and you want to go swimming, then yes you should wear a tampon, unless you want an embarrassing stream of blood being left behind you as you swim along! :)
Sweety, You must. Obviously, you'll bleed all over your swimsuit. But, if you wear a pad, the water will wash the sticky stuff off that keeps it to your undewear. Imagine swimming then everyone going, "Ewwww!" and pointing at you. There is your pad floating( or sinking?) in the middle of the pool. And blood submerging around you. A tampon won't fall out, but, be carfull, because you must find a good, comfortable brand, and one that doesn't leak. some do leak. When you get out of the pool, your tampon may feel like it will fall out, but don't worry. Just take it out as soon as you get out.( I don't mean literally "as soon")
no you do not need a tampon to go swimming. When you are in the water you stop bleeding, but when you get out make sure to put a pad/tampon on right away. hope this helped!!!

No, you're not supposed to use tampons while swimming.

If you're menstruating then you need to use internal menstrual products such as tampons, menstrual sponges, softcups, or menstrual cups - this is so that the blood doesn't leave your body and end-up in the pool. Menstrual cups are the best option for swimming as they're safer than tampons and don't leak like tampons. If you're not menstruating then you shouldn't use tampons at all and there's no need to use tampons when you are swimming if not on your period.

Yes, you can wear a tampon when you go swimming while on your period.

You can also use other internal menstrual products such as menstrual cups, softcups, menstrual sponges, diaphragms, and softcups - menstrual cups are the best option as they're saver, more convenient, and more reliable than other options. If you do use tampons to swim with then make sure to time it so you can insert a fresh tampon just before swimming to avoid leaking, also after swimming check the tampon as they can sometimes absorb water so can leak after swimming.

Yes, you can go swimming on your period while wearing tampons.

You can also use menstrual cups, menstrual sponges, diaphragms, soft tampons, and softcups to go swimming on your period. Menstrual cups are generally better than tampons as they're safer and more convenient, also better for swimming as they don't leak like tampons and can be worn with light flow.

No, you don't need to use a tampon to go swimming. You can use menstrual cups or softcups instead which are safer and more convenient than tampons (unlike tampons they can be worn when flow is light), menstrual cups also don't leak like other options. If you're not comfortable wearing internal menstrual products then you can't swim on your period, just sit out on your period.

You can use any of the following menstrual products to swim on your period;

  • Tampons e.g. Maxim
  • Soft tampons e.g. Beppy
  • Menstrual sponges e.g. Sea pearl
  • Menstrual cups e.g. Divacup
  • Softcups e.g. Softcup
  • Diaphragms e.g. Caya

Menstrual cups are the best option in general because they are far safer and more sanitary than tampons - thus unlike tampons they're safe to use with any flow or even before your period to avoid being taken by surprise, they can also be worn safely for up to 12 hours. Menstrual cups also don't have anything showing externally, don't absorb water, and don't leak like tampons.

What menstrual products you use is your choice, you have a few options for swimming:

  • Tampons e.g. Moxie
  • Soft tampons e.g. Beppy
  • Menstrual sponges e.g. Sea Pearl
  • Menstrual cups e.g. Divacup
  • Softcups e.g. Softcup
  • Diaphragms e.g. Caya

Tampons aren't the best option as in general they're not very hygienic, convenient, or reliable - they can be worn for swimming but can absorb water and leak, also you can't wear tampons with light flow. Menstrual cups are the best option for swimming as they can be worn with any flow or before your period if you want to be prepared, they can be worn for 12 hours, and don't leak like tampons.

Pads can't be worn because they will be saturated in water and disposable pads can come unstuck, you also shouldn't swim without anything - menstrual flow isn't dirty per say but no one wants to swim in your menstrual flow and chances are you wouldn't want people seeing you leaking all over.

They definitely work better. In the "old" days, we would not go swimming if we did not have or use tampons.

Are tampons only supposed to be worn in the water or do I have to wear pads?

Tampons can be worn anytime you have sufficient flow - except overnight while sleeping, or if you have a vaginal infection. You cannot wear pads for swimming as the blood won't flow down to the pad, the pad would be saturated with water so unable to absorb blood, plus the pad would come off.To swim on your period you can use tampons, soft tampons, menstrual sponges, menstrual cups, diaphragms, or softcups - menstrual cups are by far the best option, in general and for swimming.
