because the inlet valve has to hold back pressure from the gas pump where as the exhaust valve has nothing to hold back but the compression of the ignited fuel and such a force is applied at the face of the valve. the face of the valve is in the cylinder so the force is a push not a pull meaning a bigger exhaust valve is not needed because the valve dose not have to fight back to keep it's self closed.

In the case of a 6 cylinder, their are 2 exhaust manifolds; the front exhaust manifold is located under the hood between the radiator and the engine: when you check your oil level by grasping the dipstick your hand will be just a few inches above the exhaust manifold. Basically, follow the exhaust pipe(s) to the engine and where it connects to a device that splits the exhaust 3 or 4 ways, that device is your exhaust manifold.
