As long as you were A) behind the line of scrimmage, B) drop kicked the ball, and C) drop kicked the ball between the goal posts that your opponent was defending. If those three criteria above were met, the field goal would be considered good.

Yes. Antonio Cromartie (SD) returned a field goal attempt from the Minnesota Vikings 109 yards when it fell short of a field goal. He caught it inbounds and hence it must be possible to intercept the ball.

Only a pass can be intercepted, but yes, field goals can be returned by the defensive team if the kick is unsuccessful.

I don't believe so. Though, I do believe the defense could catch it, and try to return it 100 yards to the other end zone for a defensive touchdown. I know that when a field goal is a long one, the defense will frequently put a 'receiver' in the end zone just for that possibility.

There may be some rule about hitting the upright causing a dead ball. But that I am unsure of.

This is answered for NFL rules, and may be different in other leagues, college, etc.

Hope I helped some.

No, any kick that strikes the goal post is considered a dead ball because the goal posts are considered to be out of bounds.

Theoretically yes, but in practice this is effectively impossible due to the height of the ball.

What does 'laces out' mean in 'Ace Ventura - Pet Detective'?

"Laces out" in Ace Ventura refers to the best form for kicking a field goal in football. The ball should be positioned with its laces out (facing the goalpost) rather than with the laces in (facing the kicker). The trajectory of the ball is more easily controlled when it is positioned laces out, which makes it more desirable when kicking the field goal. In the film, "Lois" Einhorn/Ray Finkle blames Dan Marino for positioning the football laces in and costing him a Super-Bowl-winning field goal. His anger about this prompts him to kidnap Marino and Snowflake, the mascot for the Miami Dolphins.
