Being Emo isn't just clothing or listening to alternative music. It's sorting out your feelings and finding yourself in the sea of sameness that surrounds us all. If you like the style of dress that you have, it is a personal choice as is the music you play.
Cutting is a different matter. Cutting is a destructive behavior that is not only dangerous but can be life threatening. There are some who cut to gain attention and others who find that cutting is almost orgasmic in intensity. These people need serious help before they permanently injure themselves.
Being Emo is all about finding yourself. It's about knowing that you have issues. It's about dealing with your own problems on a mature level without injuring yourself. So if the dress, music, and self introspection fit what you feel then yes you are Emo.
Do not commence cutting because that what you think you should do. It is an aberrational behavior, one that is serious enough to require psychiatric counseling. Deal with your emotions on a mature level....cutting isn't mature!

Definition number two is the actual and original definition for the word emo, but definition number one is most popular with teenagers.
I guess it just depends on which definition is used these days. What "emo" may mean to one person may be different to another. You are not emo by wearing plain black clothes. Emo is about knowing that you have issues, and proving you can handle them. Emo is not all about listening to certain music and dressing differently.
