Depends on the crime. Murder has no 'limitations' on time to bring charges. I'm guessing that different states have different statutes also. With the Catholic church now being sued for child sex abuse (some 30 years ago)it appears that that particular crime has no limits either. Obviously I'm just guessing here, but my hunch is that you've blown off the ticket? If so, you don't really have a statute of limitations working in your favor. When you signed the ticket, the only thing you did was PROMISE to appear in court to answer the charges that the officer had just written. As always, there are exceptions to every rule, but when you fail to appear in court on a ticket a warrant is issued for your arrest, and the statute of limitations is "tolled" (meaning that it's basically frozen). If you have a different situation, give me some more facts and I'll try to help.

Can you still be found guilty for a charge that is over a year old That you have not gone to court for at all?

It depends on the Statute of Limitations (basically the "shelf life" of an open case). Every crime has it's own Statute of Limitations and every state has its own Constitution which governs solely that state, unless of course it is a Federal crime that you're referring to. In my experience, I've never seen a law (State or Federal) which had that short of a Statute of Limitations but I suppose it's possible. Just depends on the state.
