Let's see...

deep infections because you used an unsterile needle to do it, and no dunking it in alcohol or using your lighter will NOT sterilize it, sorry.

Lots of pain because you used a regular needle instead of a piercing needle, and a regular needle isn't sharp enough to go through all that meat.

bad placement because you don't really know where it's supposed to go.

even more pain because you're gonna go "oh this will hurt like hell so I'll just go slow..." when the way to make it NOT hurt like hell is to go quickly

and trauma caused by you not knowing how to transfer the jewelry into the hole. Someone had the idea to use a safety pin to pierce something. Piercers use a needle that can be passed through the hole, and they push it out with the jewelry. A safety pin you'd have to pull out backwards, and that will screw things all up.

This is something you really want to pay to have done.

well i had a friend who had 1 oh is friends peirce his lip for him and his lip got infected and had a big bubble on his lip because i geuss the needle was made of something that is bad to peirce your lips with but it got better after a couple weeks so i geuss its not that bad

My friend did it with her earing that she had and now theres a big bubble with green coating te holes

Answer

If you really want it done that badly (and don't want to go, or can't go to a professional) make sure you get a proper piercing needle. Go to amazon or a needle supply and order some (they're usually pretty cheap, I got ten 14g for 2 bucks), but keep in mind they will only sell them to you if you're 18 or older.

No matter what please please please do NOT use a regular needle to do this, it could cause serious damage such as scarring, and possible permanent dis-figuration. Not to scare you or anything but it can be a big deal. The main difference between a regular needle (like a sowing needle or a safety pin) and a piercing needle is that a piercing needle has a hollow inside so instead of pushing the skin away from the point of insertion, it literally removes it, reducing the risk of severe scarring.

Also, make sure you take a fine point marker of some kind and mark the point where you want your piercing to go through, that way you have some sort of idea.

Body Piercing is not a hobby or recreational activity, it is a serious procedure that if done incorrectly can cause lasting long term damage to the body. Body Piercing is a service provided by trained and qualified professionals in a controlled environment using only sterilized materials and bio-compatible body jewellery designed for specific piercings. This is site is not designed or intended to provide users with "how to information" that could cause serious injury to themselves or others from the use of posted information. See a professional body piercer for all your piercings.

The reasons you should not attempt to pierce your self should be obvious, but for those who think it's a "DIY" project, here's some food for thought.

Infection and contraction of MRSA, HIV, Meningitis, Hepatitis and Tetanus are all very serious health issues, MRSA is an antibiotic resistant bacteria that can in most cases land the unlucky individual in the hospital (and has been responsible for serious deformities and deaths). These infections has been caused by using unsterilized equipment and materials. Sterilization is not achieved by pouring alcohol over needles and jewellery, or burning these items over a fire or exposed flame. Microorganisms live in the fine fissures and cracks in needles and jewellery and only the high temperature and pressure of a steam Autoclave can render these and many other bacteria harmless.

The above reasons alone should be enough to sway anyone from thinking they can do it themselves. Professional body piercers have years for hands on training and education to enable them to make any piercing "look simple", when in fact they are considering dozens of things when they lay out a piercing and actually do it. So consider your lack of knowledge, training and skills before you attempt to do any self piercing, once you pierce it, it's damaged tissue. This makes it even more difficult for a professional piercer to leave you with a great looking piercing when the area we have to work with is damaged by self inflicted attempts.

It could get infected. After you take out the ring for it to heal you will have a bump form where it was pierced and it will hurt for like a month. You could also get MRSA and end up in the hospital from your bad idea.

Leave professional body piercing to actual professionals, this isn't a game of a hobby, it is a very serious profession with some very serious health risks should you make a mistake.

Go to a shop, where a trained professional will do it.

There really is no safe way to pierce your own lip unless you've had lots of practice and were trained to do it. The complications and dangers of doing this are pretty well documented. Please note, I'm not saying don't get your lip pierced, I'm saying don't do it yourself. The previous poster was right - "Go to a shop, where a trained professional will do it".

Oh what besides screwing up the piercing, bleeding heavily and passing out during the piercing, choking to death, getting a secondary infection, hitting a vein in the tongue or a whole host of other horrible things that always happen when people attempt to do something a skilled professional should be doing. How about just common sense, you wouldn't try to remove a brain tumour would you? Leave the body piercing to trained professionals so you can enjoy the whole experience without having to worry about all the other stuff.

How can you safely pierce your own lip?

If I were you, I'd go to a professional, but make sure you go to someone recommended or else they might use dirty needles, etc. ----------------------- There is no "safe" way to pierce your own lip. If you are hell bent on doing it yourself then I would recommend lots and lots of research and you're going to spend more to do it right at home than you would if you were having it done professionally.

How can a 12 year old pierce her lip whit out hurting?

That would depend on each individuals personal pain threshold. But it would hurt anyone more if the piercer had no proper training or equipment (like if someone pierced their own lip with a sewing needle) Either way it would hurt, no matter what, as it is jabbing a needle through a body part.

Piercing your lip by yourself is it safe to use ice?

You should not self-pierce your lip as it requires proper technique, proper equipment, and also you need to keep everything sanitary. But if you have already done this by yourself then I would say that you can use ice because using ice is considered the best method for healing lip piercing. You can place an ice pack directly on the swollen area for some time and repeat this for a couple of times to get rid of the swelling. If you are facing any kind of major issue then you must consult a professional without wasting any time.
