Generally speaking, once parental rights (which is a different thing than custodial rights) are terminated a person is no longer responsible for child support. However, you cannot just "sign over" your parental rights. Parental rights can only be terminated by a judge, and unless it's a case of adoption (where someone else is willing to assume your parental responsibilities), the judge generally says "no, I won't allow it"
If you were married to the mother when the child came or if you were not and have been to court to prove by DNA that you are the biological father so you get your parental rights, you can also petition for custody and visitation. Custody is usually shared though unless the mother is unfit. if you have not been through the court and is not paying court ordered child support, you have to go to court to prove paternity first and you can then petition for your other parental rights. Custody, visitation and child support are all separate issues in court. Child support is a legal obligation and does not automatically lead to other rights. You have to petition for them separately.
If you relinquish your parental rights, you are still not going to get child support payments. The child support is for the child.
Termination of parental rights does not terminate one's child support obligation.
Yes. You are obligated to pay child support in AZ even if your parental rights are severed.
Parental rights and child support are two different issues. Signing over your parental rights has no effect on your payment obligation unless the ending of the payment obligation is mentioned on the document.
When you relinquish your parental rights so the child can be adopted you are no longer responsible for paying child support. You are liable for support until/unless child is adopted.
You still pay child support until the child is 18. Parental rights means you signed away having any legal say in the child not the fact that you are still the parent.
In general, parental rights are terminated either preparatory to an adoption, or after a trial in which it is determined that the parent is unfit. In any case, termination of parental rights does not, in itself, terminate child support.
Yes, Its still your child... The child still needs to eat and live.
You can sign away your rights, but you will still owe for child support. The child is yours.
