The reason why it won't start is because its your alternator...... My uncles chev truck made the same kinda sound when his alternator went....
No, and alternator generates DC current. A starter just uses DC current to start the engine.
The starter can be found on the right hand side of the engine, near the back of the engine. The alternator will be near the front of the engine, on the right hand side.
The 'starter' actually turns the flywheel, enabling the car engine to start. The 'alternator' supplies AC & DC current to the electrical components of the engine and vehicle.
your voltage reg is built into the alternator
The alternator produces power to charge the battery. The battery powers the starter to turn the engine over.
6 cyl.? Look at the lower rear end of the engine.
on drivers side on the side of the engine behind the radiator down low, just follow the positive battery cable from the battery and it will bolt to the starter.
Had same problem with My 91 Lumina APV. Changed Starter Relay. Haven't had any problems sence.
should be under engine, passenger side, near the starter.
This vehicle (like most cars) has both a starter and an alternator. The alternator is driven by a serpentine belt, and the starter is located on the lower part of the engine at the transmission, where the teeth engage with the flywheel/flex plate. An alternator for the 1992 Sentra usually costs around $120-150, and a starter in the range of $90-120.
The starter on a 2003 Cadillac CTS is located in the engine compartment directly behind the alternator. The starter faces the firewall with the starter solenoid on top of the starter.
I recently replaced the alternator on my 96' Lumina. 1. Remove the serpentine belt off the engine by locating the belt tensioner and removing the tension req'd to remove the belt. (there is usually a diagram in the engine compt. showing the tensioner location and belt path) 2. Remove required bolts (2) I believe... & elec. harness plug from alternator. 3. Replace alternator & reverse process.
Standing in the front of the car it will be at the bottom right front corner of the engine.
Starter has no voltage or insufficient to turn engine, possibly bad solenoid or something wrong with connections.
Yes, as long as you have a fully charged battery and good starter the engine will start even if the alternator is defective. The engine will run until the battery looses it's charge, which it will. if the alternator is bad.
the starter motor is at the back of the engine to make life easy allso remove the alternator trust me this helps
Well not the starter. The starter is used to start spinning the engine and draws its power from the battery. The alternator uses the engines belt to recharge the battery and to power the cars electronics as well as lights. When you shut the engine off, the power then draws from the battery.
It would depend on your engine, but for the 2.8L 30 valve V-6, the starter is behind the alternator on the front/lower/passenger side of the engine.
Many time the high pitched whistle will be cause by a loose or unattached vaccuum line on the engine.
the single belt that runs around the engine, alternator, a/c and water pump is the serpentine belt.
Starter Relay Isuzu Trooper (Diesel Engine) located in fuse box (engine room), grey color. They have 4 relay (Power Windows-black, AC-black, Engine/Alternator-blue, and Starter-diesel engine-grey)
I did a alternator replacement on my 96' Lumina Sedan 3.1. In the engine compt. there's a diagram showing the serpentine belt flow and belt tensioner location. 1. Remove the belt after releasing the tension. 2. remove the bolts from the alternator & wire plug connecion. 3. Replace & reverse order. Pretty straight forward.
A quick way to check alternator on any vehicle is while engine is running, carefully touch a screwdriver to the spinning part (armature) of the alternator. If it is magnatized, it is charging. If not then alternator is not charging. The voltage regulator (the thingy that tell the alternator to charge) is built into the alternator. Replace the whole thing with a rebuilt unit.
IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT ENGINE IS IN THE CAR. JUST A VERY ROUGH GUESS ABOUT TWO HOURS LABOR AND ABOUT 95 TO 125 BUCKS FOR THE STARTER
I just replaced the starter motor on my 1990 4 cylinder engine Chevy Lumina. The starter is located in front of the oil pan. It was reachable and can be seen from under the front of the car a little to the right. You have to remove a three bolt attached plastic part by the oil pan to be able to get to one of the starter motor bolts. Good luck.
