In New Jersey can a parent request their 18-year-old to leave the family home?

Yes. The legal age of majority for the state is 18, that being the case the parents are no longer legally or financially responsible for a child unless there is a court order that states otherwise. Yes, as a child turns 18 he or she is considered to be an adult.
