To the best of my knowledge, there is no minimum time you have to be absent before you can collect worker's compensation payments, provided you are missing work due to an injury or illness related to working your position.
In PA: You must have a drs excuse, for the first 7 calander excused U get nothing. The 8th day thru the 13th day you will be paid for each work day off. After excused for 14 calander days you will be paid for all days you would have worked during that time. (Holiday's are still paid by employer not W/C)
For a work-related injury, you should file a WC claim with your employer as soon as the injury occurs or the illness is diagnosed (in case of work-related exposure). Following this, there is a waiting period of lost wages before temporary disability (lost wage) payments come into play. That waiting period depends upon the state in which you were injured. For most states, that waiting period is 3 days (of lost wages). However the following states have different waiting periods:
5 Days - ID, MA, MS, MT, NV, ND
7 Days - AZ, AR, FL, GA, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MI, NE, NJ, NM, NY, NC, OH, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA
does a company have the right tonot let you come back at all. or check out overall health and deny one to return to work
6 weeks

Typically there are a few types of damages that can be claimed in a personal injury lawsuit. Beyond measurable costs like wages lost due to injury, medical expenses, and property damage, there are special damages like pain and suffering and emotional distress.
Wages received because of an injury is usually workers compensation. That compensation is to compensate for lost wages, which would have otherwise been earned while working. Those earnings are still taxable.
If the injury does not require surgery, the claim usually allows for medical treatment, including physical therapy and ergonomic equipment to prevent further injury. If the injury requires surgery, medical expenses will be paid, as will partial lost wages. If permanent loss of motion or other impairment is found, the claim may pay $5,000 to $10,000. If permanent disability is found, medical expenses will be paid along with a lifetime of lost wages. Lost wage payments may extend to a spouse or child after death.
Settlements that are paid for a physical injury are not taxed. The settlement that you receive for a personal injury claim such as slip and fall cover lost wages, medical appointments, and pain and suffering. These settlements are made so that a person can feel "whole" again.
They are as taxable as normal wages...which they are...its just that they aren't given to you but to those who you owe...
If the claim for which you are bringing suit warrants lost wages, you can include them in your suit.

To establish a monetarily eligible unemployment compensation claim, a person must have worked and earned wages during the first four quarters of the previous five completed quarters prior to filing a claim. This period of time is called the "base period." The base period changes every three months at the beginning of each new quarter starting in January, April, July and October. To qualify monetarily, a person must:Have been paid wages in two or more calendar quarters in the base period;Have total base period wages of at least 1-1/2 times the wages in the quarter having the highest earnings;Have at least $3,400 total wages in the base period. For more information check the Related link below and take a look at the FAQ's
