Mayella tried to kiss Tom Robinson and he ran away.

He went in to help Mayella with her chores because he felt sorry for her. When he went inside to fix the door like she asked, she came up from behind and jumped on him saying, "I've never kissed a [n-word] before so maybe I can find out!" She then tried to kiss him but when Mr. Ewell came back and saw Mr. Robinson with her, he stormed in and Tom ran as fast as he could away. After the fact, Mr. Ewell beat Mayella to set Tom up and evidence later shows that Mr. Ewell was the culprit although the citizens were too blind to not believe a white man's word over the black's!
