Business communication has different purposes and takes many forms, from different ways of exchanging data and information within the company, to communication with potential and existing customers, and with shareholders etc.

The best communication always considers the audience. e.g. What does the audience already know, what do they need to know, what is the objective of the communication, which is the most effective medium to reach a particular audience, what might the message require in order to give it credibility and impact. What will capture and retain their attention? How can they be 'involved' in the matter?

If the audience is mixed, the communication must be broad enough and adapted to reach all of them them. Sometimes the communication will be intended for just a small sector. The message must be focussed on the particular needs and learning style of the audience, and done in such a way that the audience will remember and act upon the information presented.
