My old position - Defensive Tackle.
DT's are Defensive Linemen, and are responsible for stopping any run attack through the interior line, in addition to putting pressure on the Quarterback. The DT's (there are 2) line up on either side of the Nose Tackle, who lines up directly across from the Center. Defensive Ends line up outside the DT's, and are responsible for keeping Running Backs from getting past the outside ends of the line. Cornerbacks line up outside the DE's, responsible for covering Wide Receivers.
In case a Running Back makes it past an interior lineman, Linebackers are positioned several yards behind the line to make the play. They are also responsible for stopping short passes to Tight Ends, Fullbacks, or anyone else within a 10-20 yard range of the line (in most cases anyway). Corners and the Safety are responsible for any long passes.
