Call the unknown speed of the current c and the speed of the boat in still water b. When travelling upstream, the net speed of the boat will be b - c and when travelling downstream the net speed of the boat will be b + c. Since b = 4c, the speed upstream will be 3c. The distance upstream is one-half the total travelling distance of 150 km or 75 kilometers. Distance travelled = speed X time at speed, so that upstream time = 75/3c, downstream time = 75/5c, and the sum of these is the total time stated to be 8 hours. Thus 75/3c + 75/5c = 8. Multiplying both sides by 15c yields 75(5 +3) = 120c, or c = (8 X 75)/120 = 5 kilometers per hour.

How much energy is needed to travel at the speed of light?

It is not possible for any object with any mass to travel at the speed of light. It is possible to travel at 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999% the speed of light, you could even travel at "99.9 followed by a trillion trillion 9s"% of the speed of light but never quite 100%.According to our current mathematical theories, for an object with any mass to travel at the speed of light it would take infinite energy to attain that speed.

Is there any way to travel by light speed?

With current technology, it is not possible to even come anywhere close to the speed of light. For example, traveling at 1/10 the speed of light is still science fiction. On the other hand, for anything that does NOT travel at the speed of light, it is impossible to actually attain the speed of light. In theory you might get close. There are some particles, such as photons and the hypothetical gravitons, which ONLY travel at the speed of light.

Can humans travel at Mach 3 speeds?

Humans are not capable of running that fast, no, but they can travel that fast using a vehicle. The current air speed record is Mach 6.7.

Does the water in a river travel at the same speed along its whole course?

No, the water travels at different speeds depending on the terrain. That's why you have some sections of a river called "rapids."

What is the speed of light can anything else travel closer to the speed of light?

What is the speed of light? About 300,000,000 meters per second - enough to travel all around the Earth 7.5 times in one second. Can anything travel nearly as fast? - Yes, in particle accelerators particles are regularly accelerated to over 99% of the speed of light. According to current scientific understanding: (a) it is not possible to transfer matter, energy, or information faster than the speed of light. (b) An object that regularly travels at a slower speed can't be made to travel at the speed of light - it can only approach it. (A photon, that is, a speed of light, can only travel at the speed of light.)
