Without war there will be no peace. Without slavery there would be no freedom. And in your ignorance you create many strengths. That is how they are paradox. A paradox is a statement or phrase in wich seems self contradictory and absurd but in reality poses a possible truth.

What is perpetual war in Orwell 1984?

George Orwell , in his book Nineteen Eighty-Four , had written that perpetual war was fought between either Oceania , Eurasia and Eastasia or any combination of the three . War , not peace , is the goal of each nation's oligarchy . War is a form of control by the ruling elite uniting the citizenry against a common enemy . "It does not matter whether the war is actually happening, and, since no decisive victory is possible, it does not matter whether the war is going badly. All that is needed is that a state of war should exist." Emmanuel Goldstein ("I just want you to know that, when we talk about war, we're really talking about peace." - George W. Bush, June 18, 2002 ) "War is Peace" - Big Brother in George Orwell's 1984 (War for the masses = Peace for the elite)

What social class does Winston occupy in the book 1984?

George Orwell depicts the relationship between the three classes in the society of Oceania in a very doom and gloom manner. The Inner Party is a small-ish group of people that rules with an iron fist more totally than any communist leader or dictator that has ever existed in the present or past. They make up the upper class of Oceania. The outer party is like the middle class today, they do all the dirty work of the Inner Party. The main character in 1984 had a was a member of the outer party and worked to cover up errors made by the Party and put in lies instead. The lowest class is called the Proles. They are viewed as nothing more but simpleminded animals who have no more value than a beef cow or any other animal that can be sold commercially.

What is the theme in 1984 by George Orwell?

Freedom and enslavement or free will. Found this answer from the following website...i think you need to pay money to view more: http://www.directessays.com/viewpaper/8488.html = 1984 thematic statements = The thematic statements chosen from the novel 1984 have a lot to do with the policies and way of life in the George Orwell novel. They reflect the story's bleak image of life and the type of world that Winston lives in. Three of the thematic statements chosen are the names of chapters in The Book, and are the main phrases of the Party. The first thematic statement and Party phrase is "War is Peace." (Pg. 26) This applies to the novel because in that society war is important because it creates jobs. If war ended the standard of living would drop. This statement applies only to this novel. In life I feel that war has never been peace and it never will be peace. War is never portrayed as peace in television, movies or books. Orwell makes the society of Oceania seem even more cold by using this as one of the Party's main phrases. This must have been Orwell's goal when he wrote such a phrase. The second thematic statement and Party phrase is "Ignorance is Strength." (Pg. 165) This applies to the novel because it promotes the thought that all people should blindly follow Big Brother without thinking at all. The people are stronger as a large group who does not question Big Brother.
