From Adam to the Flood. The Bible gives evidence of the existence of lists of family relationships from man's beginning. At the birth of Adam's son Seth, Eve said: "God has appointed another seed in place of Abel, because Cain killed him." (Ge 4:25) Representatives of the line begun by Seth survived the Flood. (Ge 5:3-29, 32; 8:18; 1Pe 3:19, 20)

Cain's descendants are listed in part and include men who distinguished themselves in nomadic stock raising, the playing of musical instruments, and the forging of metal tools as well as those who were known for their practice of polygamy and their violence. (Gen. 4:17-24) Cain's line ended with the global Flood of Noah's day.

Because his descendants all died in the Flood. Adam's genealogy shows how Noah came from him. Noah did not come from any of Cain's descendants.

The relevant genealogy of Adam is in Genesis chapter 5. Leon R. Kass (The Beginning of Wisdom: Reading Genesis) regards Genesis chapter 5 as a third and wholly new creation story, distinct in content and form both from the cosmological account of Genesis 1 and from the paradigmatic story of the prototypical human beings, Adam and Eve and sons (Genesis 2:4-4:26).

In other words, this genealogy comes from a separate tradition that did not involve Cain and Abel. The earlier tradition concludes in Genesis chapter 4 with the descendants of Cain.

Enoch (from Cain), Enosh (from Seth), and many, many others not mentioned were the grandchildren of Adam and Eve.

Cain was not in the blood line of Jesus. Cain and Abel were sons of Adam and Eve. Cain killed Abel and Cain went to the land of Nod. Adam and Eve had another son by the name of Seth (Genesis 4:25-26.) You will find Seth in the genealogy found in Luke 3:23-38).

Cain was the first person mentioned in the bible besides Adam and Eve. "...she conceived and bore a son Cain" (Genesis 4:1)

Seth. Adam and Eve's third son after Cain and Abel.
