Adidas AG has it's roots in a family washroom. Adolf ("Adi") Dassler, of Herzogenaurach, Bavaria, returned from the first world war and started to make a living by making his own sports shoes in his mother's wash kitchen. His brother, Rudolf (Rudi) soon joined in and they formed a company Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik (Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory).
After the second world war, in 1947, the brothers split up. Rudi went on to found Puma, and his brother Adi set up Adidas.
