Captain Pugwash appeared in the Eagle. (Pugwash later "starred" as an animated cartoon on BBC tv). The "Eagle", a boys' comic, was the creation of Marcus Morris, and was the first of a family of comics. "Girl" was the girls' equivalent. "Swift" was for younger readers; and "Robin" was for even younger children. The Eagle's most famous character was probably Dan Dare, the "Pilot of the Future". Dan Dare flew spacecraft and rockets and, with the help of trust Digby, fought the Mekon an intergalactic villain. The Eagle had very high levels of editorial content and was produced partly in colour. Arguably, the Eagle and its siblings were the best illustrated, most interesting, most imaginative and most educational of any comics before of since. Although Marcus Morris was a Church of England vicar, the comic was not at all preachy, although it did promote moral responsibility and a healthy lifestyle. My childhood was greatly enriched by the Eagle.
He's a Bald Eagle that was injured, nursed back to health, and then released with a tracking device.
