When this question was first asked, Mr. Obama was a U.S. Senator. Since January 2009, he has been serving as the President of the United States. But in neither case was he ever Speaker of the House.
Obama's Speaker of the House should be a woman, such as Hilary Clinton or perhaps California Congresswoman Maxine Waters. This is an important strategy to help safeguard the Presidency. I.e.: the type of characters who might try to assassinate the President & Vice President (in order to get their own crony in) would be much less likely to consider it if they knew the President's replacement would be a female. Ideally, Hilary Clinton and Maxine Waters should hold the positions of Speaker of the House and Secretary of State. They are both excellent.
Bill Richardson should be way way down the Presidential inheritance ladder. It is not enough that we celebrate the wonderful historic victory of the first African American male elected to the Presidency -- then suffer a national tragedy and see the Supreme Corporate Rulers' concession, for political and economic purposes, of allowing a "having the cake and eating it too" type of scenario.
To keep two thinks ahead of "their" thought process, we might ask this question:
If somebody's goal, for political & economic purposes, is to engage our country in war with a very huge foreign nation, how can they accomplish that? Whose foreign policy might facilitate that; who should be in office in order for that goal to be accomplished?
No, he is not. The Speaker of the House is not from the Executive Branch. Rather, the speaker comes from the Legislative branch in congress, and is chosen by the majority party. When Democrats were in the majority in 2008, the speaker was Nancy Pelosi. In 2010, the Republicans won control of the House and their speaker is John Boehner (pronounced BAY-ner).
It is still Nancy Pelosi.
The President does not choose the Speaker of the House. The House chooses its Speaker.
He or she is called the Speaker of the House.
They are called the "Speaker of the House".
