Not much is known about Helios, the most-known aspect of him being determining whether he or Apollo is the Sun God who drives the Sun across the sky. In all of the instances I've read, at least, he was mentioned only in passing.
Helios was the son of the Titans Hyperiôn, who is Titan god of light; and Theia a Titanis goddess of sight (prophesy and the sense of seeing) and the shining light of the clear blue sky (aithre) and endowed gold, silver and gems with their brilliance and intrinsic value; who is titled with Euryphaessa/Ikhnaia(Ikhnaie)/Aethra.
The siblings of Helios are Selene, the Titanis of the Moon, and Eos the Titanis of the Dawn. It should not surprise that Helios was Titan of the Sun.
He had many children and many lovers, and was overshadowed by Apollo with the Romans and in the Renaissance that followed, to the point where in the here and now; Apollo is thought to be the Greek god of the sun when he is not.
Helios appears to represent the actual sun, while Apollo is representative. The Ancient Greek religion is not straightforward about this, but essentially they both are, with Helios having more relevance to the actual sun.
Actually in greek mythology, Helios is the sun.
Helios wasn't a god, he was a Titan. Since he wasn't "brought up" like some of the Olympians, he didn't achieve anything specific.
The Titan god of the Sun, yes.
Helios was the god of the sun.
Helios mean "sun" and Helios is the Greek Titan God of the Sun.
Helios was god of the sun, therefore it stands to reason that his symbol would be that of the sun.

Helios was not "replaced" by Apollo; Apollo is a god of light - and Helios is the god of the sun; these two are related, but they are not the same.
The Greek god of the sun is the Titan Helios.
