Yes, Islam is a religion. Islam means full submission to God and surrender to His will. Hence, it is the religion of all God's creatures including mankind. All pf God's prophets since Adam through Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad called to Islam. Islam per God revelation of the holy book Torah to Moses is called Judaism. Islam per God revelation of The Bible to Jesus is called Christianity. Islam per God revelation of the holy book Quran to Muhammad is called the very name Islam as it the last God religion and Quran is the last God holy book and prophet Muhammad is the last God prophet.

Islam is a good religion, although a lot of non Muslims thought Islam was a bad religion, these was because of the September 11 terrorist attack. Muslims does not support terrorism because it's is not part of Islamic symbol, Islam symbolize peace.

However, when you convert from one religion to another then sure you believe that the new religion is the best. I don't agree on the answer above. For three reasons:

1. Every one considers his religion or faith is the best. However, mutual respect among different faiths and religions is required and is a must for all people to live in peace and love. All religions share some morals that calls for mutual respect, cooperation, doing good for humanity and communities and people.
2. Not necessarily all who are not Muslims consider Islam is not the best as some of read well in Islam and believe in Quran but for some reason or another don't convert into Islam.
3. Muslim world population is more than 1500 millions and Christian world population is less than 3400 millions.

3. It is not stated (except at 3 above) that the Christian population is 3.4 billion. What is stated is that those who profess to a religious belief and who are not Muslim, number 3.4 billion.
