ibuprofen (Motrin) is an anti-inflamatory drug that works by inhibiting the COX enzyme which converts arachindonic acid into the prostoglandin, PGH2. The effect is probably most active in inflamatory immune cells such as mast cells, granulocytes, and macrophages. This serves to reduce inflamation, fever, and lethargy. Other chemical mediators of inflmation that Motrin does not work on are Interleukin-1 and TNF-g.
