The United States is a country in North America. America is a general term used for both North and South America, but usually when people say the word "America" they are referring to the USA.

There is no "country of North America". There are multiple countries IN North America (which countries depends on exactly how you define North America; at minimum, it contains both Canada and the US and may also contain Greenland as well as other countries as far south as Panama).
