In Greek mythology, Syrinx was the name of a river nymph who was pursued by the god Pan. To escape his attentions, she was turned into a stand of reeds along the riverbank. How do birds sing harmony with themselves?
Unlike mammals, which have a larynx that allows us to make one sound at a time, birds have a syrinx which is located where their tracheas fork. In many songbirds the syrinx is so highly developed that they are able tp produce a sound from each side of the fork at the same time. See the related link Avian syrinx for an illustration and more information.

What is syringohydromyelia?
Sometimes CSF (Cerebral Spinal Fluid) is squeezed downward, forced into the spinal cord itself where this fluid does not belong, creating the long blister-like syrinx of syringomyelia [Ed Note: the actual mechanism underlying syrinx formation is not well understood]. Occasionally, the syrinx will form in the central canal of the cord, causing a dilation of the canal known as hydromyelia. The combination of both of these is sometimes termed syringohydromyelia.

How do parrots talk with no voicebox?
The syrinx is the equivalent of the human larynx. It is deep inside the parrot's body, where the voice box meets the bronchial tubes. It branches in two directions, each branch opening into a bronchus. Air from the lungs passes through the syrinx and all of the air is used to produce sound. One or both sides of the syrinx can produce sound, and in fact, it can produce two tones at the same frequency at the same time. The sound quality is affected by the neck muscles, length of the windpipe, structure of the beak and various movements. Overall, the complexity of the syrinx and the number of muscles affects the complexity of a parrot's sound.
Do you use better than I or better than me?
According to the traditional rules of English grammar, you should use "better than I," since it is an elision of "better than I am" or "better than I am good." However, in colloquial usage, "better than me" is more common. It depends on the sentence structure. Example for me: So you think you are better than me? Example for I: You can do better than I can.
