No, it is based on a novel titled "Q and A" by the Indian author Vikas Swarup.
See the link below for more information on the film. Yes, it actually IS based on what happened in India a long time ago. The Hindus used to bat Muslims for what they believed (I am a Muslim). There wasn't actually a Jamel that all those stuff happened to him, that happened in a movie. 3rd answer: The second guy is a moron. The movie wasn't ABOUT what happened with the hindus or muslims. He's asking if a kid from the slums of India really did go on who wants to be a millionair and win. The whole thing with the hindus lasted for one scene, and was only referred a few times for the rest of the film. Anyway, I did hear someone once say that the director of the film claimed that it was based on a true story. Of course, that would mean that the book was also based on a true story, which is entirely possible.
Yes it is. there was an interview I found online talking with the director. Here's the link. http://www.filmstalker.co.uk/archives/2007/07/boyle_reveals_slum_dog_million.html

Not really. But its based on a true story.
It is fiction. However, much of the content in the movie is highly plausible and can sadly be seen in the slums of India still.
While many of the things seen in the movie happen frequently, it is not.
The Hobbit is definitely fiction. It is a fantasy story in a world created by JRR Tolkien.
