The crime scene in Tijuana is terrible. Look up the local news stories out of San Diego & you see tourists are getting mugged left & right down there right now. So be careful & think if you really need a poncho or a ceramic donkey for your front yard.
Go south on Interstate 5 for about 3 hours and cross the border. Be careful Tijuana can be a dangerous place. Take the AMTRAK to San Diego and from there you just walk a block east in Broadway and take the SD Trolley to the International border San Ysidro final stop... Tijuana is within walking distance from there
The population of Tijuana is 1,300,983.

Some of these cities are hot destinations for international tourists, and each one has its own perks. Cancun is a popular international destination for its beaches and scenery; it is the most visited city in Mexico by American tourists and one of the safest in the whole continent. Tijuana is famous for its vibrant night life, and the fact it is right across the US-Mexico border from San Diego, California. Acapulco is popular among Mexican tourists; not so to international tourism as it has been heavily hit by the resulting violence of the War on Drugs. Currently, Acapulco is the most dangerous city in Mexico and second in the world, with a murder rate of 128 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants. Nuevo Laredo is a major no no for international tourism. Besides the fact that it is an ugly border town with lots of industry, it is one of the most violent cities in Mexico due to the War on Drugs, with a murder rate of 72.85 per 100,000 inhabitants, making it one of the most dangerous cities in the world.
