No, Topamax is NOT an NSAID. Topamax belongs to a class of drugs called anti-epileptics (AEDs). Originally it was studied as a Diabetes agent when in turn they found that Topamax controls a wide variety of seizure types. Initially it was approved as an adjunctive medication (taken simultaneously with other AEDs) to prevent both generalized and partial onset seizures. Eventually it received FDA approval as initial monotherapy in these epilepsies along with Lennox Gastaut Syndrome. Topamax also received approval as a migraine preventive agent several years ago. It is now the most commonly prescribed migraine preventive agent utilized by Neurologists and PCPs for controlling frequent and disabling migraines. Many specialists utilize Topamax off label for reasons such as: Bipolar disorder, neuropathic pain, essential tremor, to treat Alcoholism, gambling addiction, weight loss, etc... This medication should not be taken without consultation of a physician as it can be dangerous if not appropriately dosed and managed. This drug is not habit forming and therefore has no appeal for drug seekers. That said, if you have epilepsy or frequent migraine, this may be the drug for you. It is an amazing molecule discovered by J&J many moons ago.

no, topomax was given to me to take for anti migraines (to prevent my migraines) and is also an anti convulsant. It may have some weird side affects but it is defintely NOT a narcotic. No euphoria feeling at all
