Is a 1987 Chevy blazers heater core in its own little box under the dash or do you have to bring down the whole assembly?

i would check under the hood at the firewall to see if somebody bypassed the heater core ( re-routed the hoses) alot of people will do that if the heater core starts leaking since it costs a couple of bucks to bypass but hundreds to actually fix

It does not use a cable. The heater blend door is operated by a electric motor. The complete dash assembly needs to be removed to gain access to the unit.

Drain the radiator. Disconnect the heater hoses. Remove the screws holding the heater core case and remove the whole assembly. Remove the core and install the new on in the case. Reverse the procedure to finish the installation.
