Certainly to be a competent Marine Biologist at least a Master's Degree would be expected. Real world, hands on experience can often be more valuable if was well supervised by a recognized authority from a major institution.

Most jobs in marine biology will require at minimum a Bachelor's degree in "marine biology or some related field". Some entry-level summer internship-type programs may accept students who are majoring in some field of science but do not yet have a degree, but the job title will likely be more along the lines of "laboratory assistant" than "marine biologist."

No college is required to enlist in the US Marine Corps, a High School diploma is all that is needed. To be a US Marine officer, a Bachelors degree is pretty much required.
