No. But they look similar and are of similar size and shape.

The valve cover comes of very easily with minimal tools and isn't very tight. The valve cover only weighs a pound or so. The valve cover gasket goes between it and the engine. The gasket looks like a rectangle with bumps and holes for bolts.

The head is the top part of the cylinders including where the valves go, where the spark plugs are. Removing the head takes much more powerful tools and the head can easily weigh 50 pounds on a small engine. Removing the head is much more work but can usually be done by someone who doesn't know what they are doing. The gasket is more complicated with large circles for the cylinders, and medium holes and small holes for bolts.

Are valve cover gasket and head gasket the same?

NO. The valve cover gasket seals the valve cover from leaks. The valve cover covers the valve train and it's components and it bolted to the top of the head. These components sit atop the head. The head is bolted directly to the engine block with another gasket. Water and oil flow through the head.

Is a valve gasket and a head gasket the same thing?

Valve cover gasket holds oil from the valves from leaking off the top of the head . Head gasket is lower and holds cylinder pressure between the cylinder head and the engine block.

How do you replace a valve cover gasket in a 1998 Toyota Camry?

Remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs, then remove the large nuts (30mm) around them that hold the valve cover down. If the valve cover is stuck, knock it loose, gently, with a rubber mallet or wood block. Remove the old gasket and spark plug tube seals from the valve cover. Clean all mating surfaces, including the top edge of the cylinder head, and place the new gaskets/seals where the old ones were. Place the valve cover back on the head, tighten the nuts down on the spark plug tubes, and place the plug wire ends on the same spark plugs they came from.

Is the camshaft cover the same as the valve cover on a 1988 Honda Accord LX?

These are the same thing on this Accord with a single overhead cam. Also called the cylinder head cover.

same as you do on the ford question below your question here. And that goes for all the other types of vehicles you have.

Your ford escort 98 zx2 is blowing oil into the top chember were the spark plug connects?

I Have a ZX2 myself, and I have had the same problem. After replacing the variable camshaft timing sensor grommet, I also replaced the valve cover gasket. You should be able to only change the valve cover gasket and be fine. Matthew D

What is the valve cover tightening sequence for a 1993 SL2?

A Valve cover dons't have a tightening sequence, you probably mean the head. On my 93 Saturn sl1 the valve cover only had 2 screws with a gasket. To look up what the tightening sequence for the head would be you would have to look in a repair manuel. I could give you what mine is but if its wrong you could risk bending your head sense their not the same cars. Repair manuels you can usually pick up at autozone or checkers auto for a 10-20 bucks. Plus they would be very handy on putting the rest of the car back together if you have your head off.AnswerYes a valve cover does have a tightinig sequence as well as a tourque spec, especially on a 16v motor with a aluminum cover. why do people answer questions when they don't know the answer is beyond me.

How do you replace the rear valve cover gasket on a 2000 Intrigue?

It's a bear to get to all the bolts on the back side of the block. Remove the decorative cover on the top of the engine and the block looks pretty much like any other. Remove the valve cover, clean it and the head surface off well, replace gasket, reassemble, re-torque the cover bolts in the proper order (and I don't know what that is off the top of my head). Lots of mechanics use a better sealant than what comes in the gasket kit. I gladly pay a mechanic to bust his knuckles doing such a job. You probably want to replace the front gasket at the same time, and inspect both the heads and cams for damage. If you are replacing the gasket because it appears to be leaking, it makes some sense to suspect additional damage. SOme blow-by is expected, your engine block will not remain spotless.
