Yes in that there is no such thing as a British "pound" in weight, they use the metric system aka grams, kilograms, etc. However, they do/did have a form of currency called a pound.

The 'best' answer above is totally wrong. In the UK we use pounds, ounces and metric. 16 ounces to a pound.

A UK pound is a unit of currency, and a US pound is a unit of weight. They are not equivalent, and cannot be converted.
