Legally you are still considered a minor, otherwise you are a teenager or young adult. You are considered a minor until the age of 18 in most states and countries. A few states have the age set at 19 and one even still says it is 21.

Legal age, or the Age of Consent, varies from state to state and may be different for different things. For example, at 16 you likely will not be able to drink alcohol, or vote, or be legally held responsible for a contract you sign, but you may still be able to drive a car without an adult passenger, quit school, or obtain Birth Control without a parent's permission (Note: I don't recommend either of those last two things!).

Sixteen can be a tough age, kind of a "between place" between childhood and adulthood. Being an adult is no picnic either since it comes with tremendous responsibility. I like to think of sixteens as 'young adults'. They are able to legally do a few more things than kids, but not quite all of the things adults can. This gives you a chance to sort of test the waters of responsibility and ready you for adulthood little by little. Enjoy it while you can, and don't be in such a hurry to grow up. It really doesn't get any easier. :)
