ok well right now i am someone else improving this question :) the earthquake was called 'the great east Japan earthquake' so i guess its called 'the great east japan tsunami. <----- by ME

That is technically true, but somewhat oversimplified. A tsunami is a wave, but it is not simply a larger version of ordinary ocean waves. A tsunami comes in as a surge of water and often continues to come in for several minutes. Additionally, a tsunami is not necessarily all that big when it hits, but tsunami just a few feet high can still cause substantial damage.
