Wolverines belong to the Mustelidae family, so it is correct to say they belong to the 'Weasel Family'. They do not belong to the Mustela genus though, so are not 'true weasels', like Stoats, Ferrets, Mink, and common Weasels.
On December 14th of 2010, the US Fish and Wildlife Service officially announced that the wolverine (Gulo gulo) is a candidate for listing as 'endangered'.
Please see the link(s) below for more information:
The human race has been very busy in converting wilderness to cities, farms, parking lots, and so forth; many wild species suffer from loss of habitat as a result. Some species, such as pigeons and rats, have adapted to living in human controlled areas, but wolverines can't do that and we wouldn't let them; they are relatively large, dangerous predators. So they do not fit in our world.
The wolverine, Gulo Luscus, is not an endangered species. With a wide range and fairly stable numbers, it is listed as least concern.
The marine dwelling giant otter is largest in the mustelidae family weighing between 32 and 45.3 kilograms (70-100 pounds) for males and 22 and 26 kg (48-57 lbs) for females.

An adult wolverine is about the size of a medium dog, with a length usually ranging from 65 - 87 cm (25 - 34 inches), a tail of 17 - 26 cm (7 - 10 inches), and a weight of 10-25 kg (22 - 55 lb), though exceptionally large males can weigh over 31 kg (70 lb)
