Gravity is actually not measured in meters per second. Gravity is a force and is therefore measured in Newton's. A force is an acceleration, which is equivalent to the product of a mass and an acceleration. The acceleration of gravity is constant on a planet and is measured in meters per second per second, or m / s^2.

A speed is a distance divided by a time. Since the standard unit of length is meters, and the standard unit of time is the second, it follows logically that the unit of speed should be meters per second.

It is also customary to express speeds in kilometers per hour, but when inserting data into a specific formula, all units have to be compatible. This often makes it necessary to convert from one unit to another.

A more accurate number is 9.8, but 10 is easy to remember, and it's only 2% off.

"Why" the acceleration of gravity is that number, on or near the Earth's surface ?

That question makes as much sense as asking "Why is my weight measured as

180 pounds ?", or "Why was today's snow measured as 3 inches ?"

Speed, or velocity. For velocity you would also need a direction.

No. Those are the units of speed. Since acceleration is calculated by dividing a speed by a time, the units are (meters / second) / second, usually written as meters / second2.

Why is acceleration often expressed with units of meters per second squared?

Because if speed is measured in meters per second (m/s) and time is measured in seconds, the SI unit of acceleration is meters per second per second (m/s2). ^_^

What is the unit of acceleration measured in kilometers per hour?

Kilometers per hour is used to measure speed, not acceleration. In SI, the acceleration is commonly measured in meters per square second.Kilometers per hour is used to measure speed, not acceleration. What is the quantity measured in meters per second called?

Speed or acceleration

Why are the units for acceleration meters per second?

Acceleration is not measured in meters/second. Meters/second is a unit of speed. Since acceleration is defined as change of speed divided by time, the units are meters/second/second, usually written as meters/second2.

How many meters per second is the costant equal to the acceleration of gravity?

It is about 9.814 meters per second per second on Earth

What is an accurate statement of an acceleration value translated from symbols into words 3 meters per second 3 meters per second squared 3 squared meters per second 3 meters in 3 se?

Acceleration is a change in speed, measured per second and so would be meters per second per second or meters per second squared.

What is accerationmeasured in the unit?

Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity.Velocity is the rate of change of position. Since position is measured in length units (for example, meters), velocity is in meters per second, and acceleration is in meters per second per second. In most unit systems, there isn't a specific term for this, though you will sometimes see acceleration measured in "gees", which is the standard accelration due to gravity on Earth, or 9.8 meters per second per second.

Acceleration is 9.8 meters?

This is the acceleration due to Earth's gravity measured at sea level. Should read 9.8 metres per second per second.

What is the velocity if travel 5.7 meters per second squared for 4 seconds?

Velocity can be measured in metres per second, not metres per second squared. Acceleration is measured in metres per second squared but knowing only the acceleration does not help in finding the velocity.

What is the unit that g is measured in?

The acceleration of gravity, g, is measured in units of acceleration, which is to say units of distance per time squared. For example, meters per second squared.

In what units is acceleration expressed a newtons b foot pounds c kilograms d meters per second squared?

Assuming you want the international units: time: second velocity: meters / second distance: meters acceleration: meters / second2

What is net force measured in?

In physics, the net force is measured in Newton. The formula for net force is given as the mass times the acceleration. The mass is given in kilograms (kg), and the acceleration is measured in meters per second squared. A Newton is equivalent to a kilogram-meters per second squared.
