well, as far as I know the reason why Alcohol is prohibited to drink because of the effects... It blurs reasoning, eradicates inhibition... it intoxicates the person.. as to cooking, I guess it is acceptable, because when you cook, the alcohol is broken down into its basic ingredients so the effect of alcohol is no longer effective... but if you're still doubtful, there are alternatives to alcohol in cooking although the result would be not much as expected. You may use natural white vinegar, grape vinegar or sugarcane vinegar too if you have. Hope this helped.

As a Muslim, I don't agree on the answer above and I consider it a personal judgment rather than a religious answer based on proper Islam teachings understanding. Alcohol is not allowed per explicit God command in Quran; even if science prove it is not harmful to health. It is absolutely forbidden to drink alcohol or eat any food or chocolates or any desserts including alcohol in its ingredients.
