Ostriches might be tied with North American Pronghorns as being the 2nd fastest land animal. The consensus of a variety of sources I have read indicate Cheetahs are the fastest for a short distance. They are frequently being quoted as being capable of going 70 mph, but only for a short distance. Over longer distances, I have seen both Ostriches and Pronghorns quoted as being able to go 60 mph. ∙ 12y agoNo. The fastest animal in the WORLD would be. The Pereguine Falcon. In the air it hunts pigeons and to catch some they need to dive at them. Their dive is called a stoop which allows them to drop at an AMAZING 290mph! You now maybe have another question, How do they do this without passing out? Well, Pereguine Falcons have special duckts in the nostrils which prevent air presurising onto their brains by slowing the air down to a paste.
