Alcohol is a drug classified as a depressant , which means it has a depressing effect on the central nervous system and may cause slowed pulse & breathing rate, poor concentration, confusion, fatigue, impaired coordination, memory , judgement, respiratory depression and death.
In my opinion and experience - yes it is. Don't get me wrong, i enjoyed many a fine bottle for a good many years. However, after drinking it almost daily I took a two year abstinence. I tried some a few weeks ago - and woke up feeling more depressed than i had in years. Tried again last night - same affect this morning.
It was a wonderful pleasure for a while. But for me, it is certainly now directly linked to depression.
I also noticed that after the half bottle mark, my mood was already on the downward. Avoiding now.
I hope that helps.

I think the above comment is very helpful, however, it all has to do with how you see it. I personally enjoy me a good glass of wine once in a while, everything in excess is not good (even water). If you drink a bottle of wine every day you might have the above symptoms, but if you take it slow throughout your lifetime you may actually enjoy life more often. If you ask an European he or she might tell your how healthy and helpful it is to enjoy a couple of glasses a day.

Strictly speaking ALL alcoholic drinks are Depressants, i.e. they depress the emotion-controlling actions of the brain. This is why they seem to heighten your mood whether happy or sad, but the former especially in a very fragile manner.
Beer is a depressant. Beer is a type of alcohol made from yeast-fermented malt and hops. Alcohol is considered a depressant because it slows the function of the central nervous system. Conversely, a stimulant speeds up both physical and mental functions.
Although wine stimulates our happiness and sense of well-being, it is a depressant in that it slows bodily functions such as heart rate and breathing.
No, alcohol is a depressant.
yes
An aromatic wine is a fortified wine (have added brandy or wine alcohol, and is usually sweeter than regular wine), but is distinct from a fortified wine in that it is also flavored with herbs, roots, flowers and/or barks. it is considered an aperitif (served before dinner as a digestive stimulant).
It's both a stimulant and a hallucinogen.
I would say 5 to 6 hours but the alcohol works as a stimulant and you'll just be working against your medicine
