Neither one is actually harmful, in and of itself. Both are a source of energy for the body. However, consuming too much of either is harmful. Brown sugar is usually a mixture of white sugar and molasses. "Raw" sugar, turbinado sugar however, is unprocessed sugar and considered by many to be a healthier alternative. Again, too much is bad.
It's still sugar and any kind of sugar (white or brown) is poison to our bodies. Organic honey or raw sugar from a health store is the healthiest type of sweetener. You can also use stevia.
