== == It's a dairy product, so it's not suitable for a vegan. In addition,

not all cheeses are vegetarian: hard cheeses are made using the coagulant rennet; until relatively recently, this was obtained from the stomach of cows, although recently the use of vegetable-based rennet -- obtained from plants -- has become more widespread.

No, it contains animal rennet from calves stomachs.

***while that is true for some cheddar cheese, Cabot Cheese uses a microbial-based enzyme that mimics animal rennet to manufacture all of our award-winning cheeses with the exception of our Processed American Cheese slices. The microbial-based enzyme serves the same function as animal rennet during the cheese making process, and it is approved for vegetarians. This enzyme also allows our cheeses to pass kosher certification. Our Processed American Cheese slices are sourced from plants that Cabot does not own, so we cannot be guarantee that they are made with microbial enzymes.

Cheeses that are produced with animal rennet are not vegertarian. The same type of cheese, e.g. cheddar, may be either vegetarian or non-vegetarian depeding on whether the makers used animal rennet. For this reason you would always have to check the label or ask whether it is vegetarian.

Dairy based Vegetarian cheeses use vegetarian means to coagulate the milk, whereas ones with animal rennet use an extract from the stomach lining of an animal.

Make sure it is not made with animal rennet - animal rennet comes from the stomachs of calves.

Vegetarian cheese is made with vegetable or microbial rennet.

If you are vegetarian, you can eat cheese. But if you're vegan, you cannot- it contains product of an animal, which vegans do not eat.

No, cheese is not a vegetarian food. Cheese is a dairy product; a dairy product has cows milk or cream as its base.
