no, but it will reek More info: It's not the smell that can be harmful, but rats (especially decaying ones) do carry diseases. And being in the air vents can spread some air borne diseases throughout the house. It would be worth it to have the vent cleaned, just to be on the safe side. Besides, the smell will be there for quite a long time if it's not removed.

The odor from a dead rat is noxious, but for most people does not pose a health risk. Exceptions would be individuals with respiratory disease and possibly those with compromised immune systems.

Yes. Rat saliva is considered poisonous and unhealthy. You could be sick if you ingested dead rat. For humans(of course) and animals.
