Dry ice, sometimes referred to as "Cardice" or as "card ice" is the solid form of carbon dioxide.

Dry ice is used primarily as a cooling agent. Its advantages include lower temperature than that of water ice and not leaving any residue (other than incidental frost from moisture in the atmosphere). It is useful for preserving frozen foods, ice cream, etc., where mechanical cooling is unavailable. The low temperature makes it useful for inserting or removing engine cylinder liners that are held in place by friction.

The extreme cold makes the solid dangerous to handle without protection due to burns caused by freezing (frostbite).

It may also be used to generate carbon dioxide gas to displace oxygen-bearing atmosphere and to carbonate liquids (especially in a party punch due to the bubbles and moisture vapors that form a visual interest).

While generally nontoxic the outgassing from it can cause suffocation due to displacement of oxygen in confined locations.

Can sublimation change liquid into a gas?

Sublimation is when a solid turns into a gas. E.g Dry ice is a solid but slowly turns into a gas, it doesn't go into a liquid. Evaporation is liquid to gas.
