It has been claimed by lung specialist Dr Friedrich Bischinger of Innsbruck, Australia, that swallowing the dry residue found in the nose (bogeys/boogers) can boost the immune system, since these contain countless bacteria (the other constituents being dried mucus and dust).

Every time you are exposed to a new type of virus or bacteria and successfully fight it off, your immune system then retains its ability to easily defeat that type of infection in the future (it develoops the appropriate antibodies).

Therefore, if your body has experience of more kinds of bacteria, your immune system will become 'stronger' (i.e. resistant to more things).

That said, your nose filters out these bacteria for a reason - they may vey well make you sick! While eating bogeys in a state of excellent health may help you to develop immunity to a wider range of bacterial infections, if you are already in a weakened state, or are unlucky enough to encounter a particularly potent pathogen('thing that makes you ill'), it may make you quite ill; this, incidentally, is why you are supposed to wash your hands after using the bathroom and before eating.

To sum up: if you are the kind of person who thinks it is better to limit handwashing and use of antibacterial wipes/sprays, in order to allow the immune system to experience lots of different pathogens in order to develop a wide range of immunities, then there is no reason not to eat your bogeys either.

Yes. They contain a liquid which contains high protein and vitiamin D, C & A. If you take a class of water and put it by your bedside at night and put you bogies in it, the next morning, grip cup/glass in hand and sip slowly so that you choke on the bogies. It is extremely good for your health.
