Statistically, the rank of transport mode is as follows (per passenger hour):
1 (safest): Rail - by far!
2 Road
3 (least safe): Air
Per passenger kilometer (which is sometimes used), the ranking is as follows:
1 (safest): Rail
2 Air
3 (least safe) Road - by far!
I tend to prefer to measure my life by hours, not kilometers.

What is the future out look of air transport?

Unless we come up with matter transport Air transport has a
pretty rosy future. At present it is the safest mode of transport
on earth, with huge distances being covered by people and goods.
political considerations have served to make people feel that
flying is not safe, however this is not the case. crossing a busy
street or taking a shower is more dangerous on a statistical basis.
the only problem that will need to be overcome is the polluting
effect of air transport on the atmosphere.

What is the safest mode of transport?

In a like-for-like comparison, in the UK, rail travel is the
safest mode both per passenger-km and per passenger-hour.
Transport statistics come in different measures. The two main
ones are killed or seriously injured per passenger kilometre, and
killed or seriously injured per passenger hour.
The airlines like to report their statistics by passenger-km
because airplanes are fast, which increases the ratio of distance
per death. This improves their statistics.
The railways are often required to report deaths not only whilst
on a train, but also from suicides on the tracks and other
accidents, which is not comparable to the way in which this is
reported for roads or for the airlines. This means it is usually
difficult to compare all three. However, this has been done once or
twice.
Air travel is the least safe mode of transport per
passenger-hour, and it is the 2nd safest mode per passenger-km.
