Usually not, collision and comprehensive only pay based on pre-accident value of the car, which for a salvage is very little if anything. You will need liability and it might be useful to have uninsured motorist.

Yes, but remember it's only worth 60% of a comparable clean titled car so make sure it's worth buying collision and not just liability/comprehensive.

I am considering dropping collision insurance on my 20 yr old truck. Is it worth the price to keep the insurance or am I better dropping it?

You are better off dropping your collision coverage. The amount extra that you are paying each month could be saved and would probably equal out to more than any amount you would get reimbursed for your collision coverage.

Can you get insurance on a car after the accident?

If the car has not been repaired but the damage is cosmetic they will probably insure it for liability only If the car has been repaired it will be no problem to get insurance. If the car is deemed salvage or rebuilt, you can get full coverage, however keep this in mind. A branded title makes the car worth 35% less than average retail. The coverage AFTER the accident , of course would not caver any claims concerning that accident.

When would you not carry full coverage auto insurance?

If you own a car outright and have paid off loans used to buy it, you are no longer required to have full coverage insurance for it. At this point, it a personal choice. If your car has worth that you cannot afford to lose in the case of an at-fault collision or theft. On the other hand, if the vehicle is older or not worth so much, it may not be worth it to pay for full coverage insurance.

Do insurance have to pay you the value of your wreck?

It depends on the insurance coverage, and what caused the wreck. But allowing the coverage covers the incedent the insurance company will pay the VALUE DETERMINED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. Not what you think it was worth. I have about $40,000 in a car the insurance comapny will pay $3,000 for if it gets wrecked.

If a car is considered a total loss after an accident and the insurance company pays you for what the car is worth do you still have coverage on that vehicle if you contnue to drive it?

Usually if the car is a total loss, the insurance company will pay you and take the car. They then sell it for parts/salvage. If they let you keep the car, all you have to do is check on the current status of your policy and see if it is listed.
