There are at least three different types of herpes viruses. The one that causes shingles (and chickenpox) is not the same as the one that causes the sexually transmitted disease genital herpes.

Shingles is different from genital herpes. Shingles is caused by having had chicken pox and the antibodies trigger shingles later in life. But it's still a result of the chicken pox virus.

Genital and oral herpes are caused by 2 types of the herpes virus.

Well... I have had a recurring case of a single blister on my glutes - one side or the other - with stress, sunburn, back injury or fever for over 30 years!! Never a lover has cntracted it. Never a blister on mouth, genitals or anywhere else for decades! suddenly ... in my 70th year, I get a genital sore!!! WTH????? then my labs come back with genital herpes diagnosis! something needs explaining here.
