In the state of Texas children are required by law to be enrolled in school by age 6 and remain enrolled until age 18 unless graduation is acquired early. Every district has different requirements as far as Pre-K, skipping grades, economic benefits, residency requirements, etc. For specific information on enrollment in school, visit your school districts website. All schools have a parent/student handbook available in PDF format the discloses all legal and school district rules and regulations.

Yes, school is mandatory in the US. The actual rules vary from state to state, but for the most part they are expected to be in school from 6 to about 18. At age 16, most places allow them to withdraw from school with parental permission.

I believe the answer is that each country/jurisdiction will have a different answer to this question. In the United States, this question is decided by each state, separately. So that means that there could be many different answers.

For example, let's take the state of Connecticut. For this state, effective July 2001, students must attend school until age 18, unless they graduate from high school, or their parents or others having control over them (such as a guardian) personally appear at the school and sign a withdrawal form consenting to their leaving school at age 16 (or 17).

I did not do the research, but can make an educated guess that other states have similar rules or guidelines, but ages may differ and there may be states where attendance is not mandatory altogether.

No. All children must be educated, but you can home school them. You may have to convince some state official that you can do this.
